What It Feels Like to be President of the United States of America

Imagine being elected President of the United States.

Running one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world, having all that power, that impact on everybody’s lives (Americans and non), that appeal on the media, on other governments, on any major global events and happenings. It must be one heck of a hard job!

So, let’s do it.

You’re elected President and you walk into the White House, one of the oldest and most fascinating buildings ever existed. History was made right here, right here where you’re walking, right here where Abraham Lincoln, after fighting against vampires (see reference here), abolished slavery and established a unified economy governed by national institutions. You walk amongst your predecessors’ actions, whether great or shameful, and wonder which ones are going to be yours, how you’re going to lead this country, what you can implement immediately and what takes more backs-and-forths with the Parliament, if you’re going to be a people person or a politician.

So you stop right there in the hallway and think. There are a lot of responsibilities to take in, but it all starts on what side you’re on.

Left or right? Up or down? Black or white?

You can only choose between the two. It doesn’t really take much thinking and there are certainly no greys in this selection process, so Republican or Democrat? Easy. Neither is evil, neither is wrong on all levels, neither will contribute (or cause) to your presidency’s success or failure.

As a voter, whatever your political flair, you go for the option that is going to represent your interests or at least gets any more adjacent to your needs as a citizen, to your social class and ideology.

I’m not an American citizen nor do I live in America so I don’t get to express a vote, but if I had to, I’d aim to the lesser evil or, to quote a fantastic comedian called Steve Hofstetter, “which of them doesn’t want me dead?” That’s one way of putting it, and for…
